Urology Residency Summary:

  • I was very fortunate to train in the field of urology and complete my residency in Bharati Vidyapeeth medical college pune as during my 36 months of training, I was exposed to a variety of cases and experiences in the field of urology. The ‘resident-first’ approach of the department was instrumental in cultivating my surgical skill as well as confidence. We were given ample of opportunities on a daily basis to perform unique surgeries such as Thulium enucleation of the prostate, Urethroplasties, laparoscopic surgeries as well as an array of endo-urologic procedures independently. The department inculcated a stronger sense of responsibility as well as confidence to treat a variety of patients independently. Moreover, The department was very active in academics and as residents, we used to have seminars, journalclubs and case presentations for a whole day each week on our academic day. We were encouraged to attend national and international conferences and present our work as podium presentations as well as posters at these conferences. As a resident, I also had the opportunity to teach and train my junior colleagues as well as medical school students.

Current Clinical Practice:

  • I have been in current practice since January, 2024. I have been appointed as a consultant urologist at Dr. Godbole’s heartcare hospital where I manage the urology department. The post also comes with administrative responsibility of the hospital in general. The hospital caters predominantly to patients of thane city and surrounding regions with an approximate population of 2.5 million people.
  • Since this is a hot and humid region, exposure to renal calculus patients remains high. Endo-urology forms the bulk of the work in my current position

Management & Leadership Experiences:

  • Management forms an essential part of my current job as a Director of Godbole heartcare hospital. The setup has a total of 45 beds which are always occupied. I am responsible for the smooth functioning of the urology department as well as day care admissions in general, so as to ensure rapid patient workup and minimize patient waiting
  • I am the key member of the marketing team as well. I try to solve all grievances and problems of the hospital staff as well as patients and their relatives. So far, I have been successful in coming to an amicable solution and thus, ensuring a healthy work environment.
  • I have been involved in various camps for the underprivileged in remote areas of Maharashtra and Gujarat over the last 2 decades. The camps were successful and we were able to provide surgical treatment to remote populations as well create awareness amongst the local population and eventually reduce morbidityand mortality caused by preventable and treatable diseases.
  • I was part of the team involved in conducting exams for Urology trainees in September, 2020 at Bharati Vidyapeeth medical college, Pune, India. I had screened all the patients for exams and admitted them. I had arranged for the accommodation and food of the examiners as well. The exam was conducted smoothly.
